Eighth-graders from Eugene’s Kennedy Middle School will get a first-hand glimpse into life at the University of Oregon on Tuesday, April 4, when 200 of them converge on campus for a full day of academic pursuits. The four busloads of Kennedy middle schoolers will be treated to a variety of campus experiences, including visits to the Museum of Natural History, the Department of Architecture, the School of Music’s electronic studio, Robinson Theatre, the admissions office and the electronic media studio at the School of Journalism and Communication. They’ll also learn about the "Science of Star Wars" and test their physics prowess with a four-story egg drop at Willamette Hall. "This is a wonderful opportunity to engage youngsters on a variety of levels and to showcase and share some of the university’s treasures," says Jeffrey Flowers, UO community outreach coordinator. "We hope these students will come away from the visit with some added knowledge and excitement about learning that may encourage them to pursue higher education in the future."
