Students in a University of Oregon historic preservation class are giving new life to three stained glass windows from a spectacular skylight that graced the university’s administration building until the 1950s. The panels have been packed away for decades and were nearly forgotten until they were found in a storage building. A UO historic preservation class restored three of the panels in 1998 under the guidance of Portland stained glass expert David Schlicker, who is leading the current workshop. "The most difficult challenge in this project will be finding contemporary stained glass that matches the colors in these 85-year-old panels," Schlicker says. The panels are made of delicately shaded tones of caramel, and Schlicker says it will be hard to find contemporary glass that matches exactly. The students will be working on the project from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, in Room 188 of Lawrence Hall, 1190 Franklin Blvd. SOURCE: Anne McCleave, UO Historic Preservation Program graduate assistant, (541) 346-2089; e-mail amcc@darkwing.uoregon.edu.
