EUGENE--Anne Dhu McLucas, dean of the University of Oregon School of Music, was installed as president of The Sonneck Society for American Music during the scholarly organization's recent national meeting in Seattle, Wash.

Named for the first critical scholar and bibliographer of American music, Oscar G. Sonneck, the society seeks to stimulate the appreciation, performance, creation and study of American music in all its historical and contemporary styles and contexts. The 22-year-old organization, which publishes the journal American Music and a newsletter, is open to any interested individual.

McLucas wrote her dissertation at Harvard University on melodic relationships in American traditional folk music. She has continued her work in American music with publications on folksong, American theater music of the 18th and 19th centuries, and Native-American music--especially ceremonial music of the Mescalero Apaches.
