70% of UO students work part-time
EUGENE--The University of Oregon is giving its student workers an extra pat on the back this week in conjunction with National Student Employment Week, April 6-12. Five UO students--from Eugene, Springfield and Woodburn--are the first to receive National Student Employment Week awards. "This award recognizes the contributions of student employees to their colleges and communities," says Linda Huberd, UO Career Center Employment Services specialist. She notes that seven out of 10 UO students work while attending classes, according to the Career Center's most recent biannual Career Survey. Award criteria include reliability, quality of work, initiative, disposition/attitude, longevity, adaptability and uniqueness of contributions. Nominated by their employers, each of the winning students will receive a gift certificate from the UO Bookstore. Of 22 students nominated, the five winners are:
