EDUCATION NOTES
The University of Oregon has joined the American Institute of Indian Studies (AIIS) as an institutional member. "This membership in the AIIS reflects the recent growth of interest in people and cultures of India on the UO campus," says John Lukacs, professor of anthropology and Asian studies who now serves on the AIIS board of trustees. Membership in AIIS accords several benefits to faculty and students of member institutions. These include, enhanced research opportunities in India, language study programs, access to research centers for art, archeology and ethnomusicology. Founded in 1961, AIIS has its headquarters in New Delhi and a U.S. office at the University of Chicago. It is a co-operative, non-profit organization of 49 American colleges and universities that supports the advancement of knowledge and understanding of India, its people and culture.
