EUGENE–University of Oregon biologist Karen Sprague will present a free public lecture and slide presentation, "How Genes Work: Using Silkworms to Spin the Yarn," at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 30, in the Auditorium at South Eugene High School, 400 E. 19th Ave.

Sprague, a professor of biology and a member of the UO Institute of Molecular Biology, will begin her talk with an overview of DNA and genetics. Then, she will examine more closely how genes, the blueprints of organisms, are read and used in living cells. This program is suitable for all ages–questions from the audience will be welcomed.

Sprague’s talk is the last of three in this year’s "A Touch of Science–UO Public Science Lecture Series."
