EUGENE– In honor of Children’s Day in Japan, an evening of fun for the family is scheduled from 5—7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, at the University of Oregon Museum of Art, 1430 Johnson Lane. The evening is free for everyone, and refreshments will be served.

Part of the art museum’s weekly MusEvenings! program, the May 5 event will offer origami folding and other art activities for children. The Yujin Gakuen (Japanese Immersion School) choir will perform throughout the evening.

Grown-up visitors will be able to view several current exhibitions, including "Web of Confession: Paintings by Masami Teraoka," on display at the UO art museum through May 9.

Through this collection of 21 paintings, Teraoka, a preeminent Japanese artist, offers contemporary approaches to religion, confession, sexuality, gender and technology while providing fascinating commentary on the contemporary world as the 21st century approaches. Viewer discretion is advised due to the subject matter of some of Teraoka’s sharp-edged images.

The Museum of Art, accessible to people with disabilities, is open from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. Suggested admission is $3, except on Wednesdays when the MusEvenings! program offers free extended viewing hours from 5—8 p.m. Museum members, students, UO employees and children are admitted free.
