EUGENE--The University of Oregon's appearance in the Las Vegas VI Bowl will bring thousands of Ducks and Duck fans to Las Vegas. In addition to fans who will go simply to enjoy themselves and root for their team, dozens of UO employees are also going to work--to make the football team successful and to ensure that this "moment on the world stage" translates into long-term benefits for the university and the state of Oregon. University of Oregon representatives include: FOOTBALL TEAM, MARCHING BAND AND RALLY SQUAD: * Football team: 108 players * Marching band: 152 band members * Rally squad: 17 members * Oregon Duck mascot: 1 Travel and accommodation costs for these groups are paid from the Las Vegas Bowl VI expense fund. ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT WORKING STAFF: * Football coaches, trainers, administrators and other support staff: 75 * Marching band support staff: 11 * Rally squad support staff: 1 Travel costs for these groups are paid from the Las Vegas Bowl VI expense fund.
OTHER UO WORKING STAFF: Seventeen UO staff members from the areas of alumni relations, fund raising, legislative relations and communications will go to Las Vegas to staff the many tours, receptions, rallies, events and outreach functions associated with the Las Vegas Bowl VI. Depending on the staff member involved, costs of the trip for this group will be paid either through the Las Vegas Bowl VI expense fund, income from UO tour packages, or UO Foundation funds dedicated to the development of prospective donors. "Any UO staff member who goes to the Las Vegas Bowl in an official capacity is there to work," says Duncan McDonald, UO vice president for public affairs and development. -more-
PRESIDENT'S DELEGATION: The President's Delegation is comprised of approximately 90 individuals including the UO president, two vice presidents, the athletic director, deans, the student government president, prominent alumni and university supporters (including Len Casanova) and select groups of high-ranking public officials and staff. With the exception of a handful of members who are traveling to the bowl in an official capacity, President's Delegation members will pay their own expenses for their trip, including bowl tickets, travel to Las Vegas and accommodations. Delegates will be offered these benefits paid by the Las Vegas Bowl VI expense fund: * Two complimentary breakfasts at the President's Associates brunch Saturday morning * Two complimentary tickets to the UO Alumni Association's pre-game tailgate barbecue * Opportunity to purchase "priority seating" tickets for the Las Vegas Bowl VI game * Commemorative memento (available for purchase by elected officials) A very small working subgroup consisting of the UO president, two vice presidents, student government president and high-level staff representing the university in an official capacity will be provided lodging and travel packages paid through the Las Vegas Bowl VI expense fund. "Some members of the UO President's Delegation will be expected to represent both the university and the state at a number of public and private events," says McDonald. "Those delegates will be working while there, and we'll pay their way." -30- #O-1095/Special
