relations, foreign policy and international diplomacy. Mitchell argues that the appropriateness of the military response needs to be assessed in the light of the ineffectiveness of alternate strategies meant to limit Sadam Husseins development of weapons of mass destruction and the risks involved if that development is permitted to continue. Alternative strategies include economic sanctions, diplomacy and weapons treaties.
