Tuesday, Feb. 20Oregon Composers Forum
New music by composition students will be presented in a concert by the Oregon Composers Forum. The program begins at 8 p.m. in Beall Concert Hall, 961 E. 18th Ave. Admission is free.
Selections on the program include a piano suite by Matt Svoboda; a scherzo for guitar, violin and flute by Bill Whitley; a horn sonata and "Low Voltage" for tape by Richard Montoya; and a brass quintet, a piece for solo viola and a "noise collage" for electronically manipulated sound by Christopher Moore.
Also slated for performance are three works by Lily Barmor, including "Return to the Dead Sea" for soprano saxophone, "Widmung" for cello and piano, and "Songs with Poetry of Robert Frost" for two singers and piano.
Friday, Feb. 23The Jazz Café
Jazz combos from the School of Musics jazz studies program will be featured in the popular Jazz Café series, performing at 8 p.m. in Room 186 of the Music Building. Tickets, available at the door, are $5 general admission and $3 for students and senior citizens.
Light beverages also will be available for purchase at the concert.
Four of the UO jazz programs finest jazz combos will be on the program, performing a variety of traditional and original jazz selections. Each year, students and combos from the UO jazz program are recognized to be among the nations finest, garnering awards at regional jazz festivals and performing at music educators conventions.
