EUGENE–A memorial service for Jill Marie Dieringer, 19, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, in Christ the King Catholic Church, 11709 S.E. Fuller Rd., in Milwaukie. The University of Oregon freshman died Feb. 9 of meningococccal disease.

Immediately following the Saturday service, a reception will be held at La Salle High School, 11999 S.E. Fuller Rd., next door to the church. Campus friends are planning a campus memorial service and will announce details when plans are completed.

Miss Dieringer was born Sept. 26, 1981, in Portland. She graduated from Milwaukie’s La Salle High School in June 2000 and enrolled at the University of Oregon in the fall.

As a high school student she registered 500 hours of volunteer service at Southwest Washington Medical Center in Vancouver, Wash., and was a student leader for Multnomah County Education Service District’s Outdoor School. She later returned to Outdoor School to help students with special needs.

Survivors include her mother, Lori G. Hughes; father, Keith G. Dieringer; and grandmothers, Mildred Dieringer and Shirley Travis.

The family has chosen cremation, and Andreason Cremation and Burial in Eugene is handling arrangements.

The family suggests remembrances to the Catholic Downtown Chapel, 601 W. Burnside St., Portland.
