EUGENE--A popular entertainment series at the University of Oregon is proving you can have big fun without alcohol. The UO offers its "First Friday" concerts as alternatives to alcohol-related partying. The third in this continuing series is on tap for 9 p.m.-midnight on Friday, Feb. 6, at the Collier House, 1170 E. 13th Ave., on the UO campus. The events are sponsored each month by the University Health Center, the Office of Student Life and the Alcohol Prevention Team. "We're very pleased with the response to this series," said Joanne Frank, health center education director. "The two previous First Friday events drew about 200 students which proves that students are very interested in alcohol-free social activities." The upcoming concert features two local performers. Singer-songwriter Diana will play blues, acoustic punk and what she describes as "finger-pickin' good folk." Dan Jones, who mixes humorous narrative with original songs written for acoustic guitar, also will perform. Coffee, juice drinks and other refreshments will be available, and the event is open to students, faculty and staff.
