EUGENE--University of Oregon physics professor Greg Bothun will present a free public lecture, "The Future is Now: The Need for Production Line Alternative Energy Sources," at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 8, in the South Eugene High School Auditorium, 400 E. 19th Ave.

Bothun's lecture--enlivened by demonstrations of exploding hydrogen balloons, gas-fired rockets, liquid nitrogen heat engines and potential gravity-based energy--will address issues such as fossil fuel depletion, global warming and the exponential growth of human populations. His presentation will stress the importance of sustainable energy technologies such as wind, solar, hydrogen, hydroelectric and ocean thermal energy conversion. The lecture is intended for anyone interested in sustainable energy technology and the future quality of life on the planet.

The public is invited to this presentation, the last of three in this year's "A Touch of Science--UO Public Science Lecture Series."
