BACKGROUND

In his speech to the Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce, Frohnmayer will discuss the UO’s contribution to the local and state economies, which includes a financial impact of more than $385 million per year in direct spending. In addition, Frohnmayer will explain how the UO and higher education contribute to a healthy economy and to area businesses by providing an educated and skilled labor force.

"The UO is positioned to help keep Oregon’s economy healthy and growing by providing the type of managers and scientists needed to make our changing economy work," says Frohnmayer. "Today, many of Oregon businesses are going out of state to fill key positions. The UO is looking for legislative support to invest in and improve the programs that will bring Oregon up to par with other states, so more Oregonians can be hired into family wage jobs."

A native Oregonian, Frohnmayer is the 15th president of the University of Oregon, the state’s 123-year-old center for liberal arts, science and professional studies. He assumed the presidency on July 1, 1994.
