UO ART HISTORY PROFESSOR IS HONORED AT CONFERENCE

EUGENE–Alfred Acres, an associate professor of art history at the University of Oregon, has received the 1999 Arthur Kingsley Porter Prize for a distinguished article in art history. Acres received the award for an article published in "The Art Bulletin." The article, "The Columbia Altarpiece and the Time of the World," was praised for it’s use of evocative language, close description and illuminating comparisons. Acres teaches Renaissance and Baroque art history at the university, and his research focuses on Northern European painting of the 15th century. The award was presented at the 1999 College Art Association’s 87th annual conference in Los Angeles, Calif.
