EUGENEMichael Redding has been hired as the University of Oregons associate vice president for governmental affairs, Duncan McDonald, UO vice president for public affairs and development, announced Friday (Jan. 21).
Redding will begin work Feb. 28. He replaces Kirk Bailey, who left the position at the end of the last legislative session in order to move to Washington, D.C.
Redding has directed legislative outreach for the City of Eugene since 1997.
"I am leaving my position with the City of Eugene with fond memories, but I look forward to the exciting challenge of expanding the universitys efforts in governmental affairs," says Redding.
In his new position, Redding will reorganize what had formerly been the UO Office of Legislative Relations to include both state and federal governmental outreach. It will incorporate a position vacated last year by Patricia Martin who had been assistant vice president for federal relations in the Provosts Office.
Before becoming legislative director for the City of Eugene, Redding worked as an intergovernmental relations analyst for the City of Eugene, a U.S. public and government affairs representative for Texaco in Washington, D.C., and assistant to the lieutenant governor of Delaware.
He holds a bachelors degree in political science from the University of Delaware and a masters degree in governmental administration from the University of Pennsylvania.
