EUGENEThe Oregon Jazz Ensemble, conducted by guest director David Glenn, will give a concert at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, in Beall Concert Hall, 961 E. 18th Ave. at the University of Oregon.
Tickets, available at the door, are $5 general admission and $3 for students and senior citizens.
As the top jazz group at the UO School of Music, the Oregon Jazz Ensemble has made numerous appearances at jazz festivals throughout the western United States.
Glenn, a trombonist, educator and composer/arranger, is director of jazz studies at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash. He spent 11 years as a professional trombonist in New York City, where he played with the Gerry Mulligan Concert Jazz Band and toured with Bill Watrous Manhattan Wildlife Refuge, Diana Ross, Lou Rawls, Chuck Mangione, Blood Sweat and Tears, and the Mel Lewis Orchestra.
Glenn has recorded with the Ed Palermo Band, the fusion group Cosmology, pop artist Dean Friedman and blues artist Rusty Cloud, and he performed on the Grammy award-winning album, "Walk on the Water," by the Gerry Mulligan Concert Jazz Band.
