Jan. 26, 1998
University of Oregon students will get a rapid-fire pop quiz on any subject from poetry and biology to sports and current events when the preliminary rounds of this year's College Bowl get underway at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28, in the Ballroom of the Erb Memorial Union, 1222 E. 13th Ave. The four-student teams most in the know--and quickest to ring in with the correct answers--will compete in the College Bowl campus finals at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, also in the EMU Ballroom. All the officials and question readers for the double-elimination tournament are UO faculty and staff volunteers. The winning UO team will go to the regional competition on Feb. 20-21 at the University of Montana. Depending on how well they fare in Missoula, the Ducks may even wing their way to the national finals later this spring. The last time a UO team placed in the national contest was 1993. College Bowl is an annual competition sponsored locally by the Erb Memorial Union Recreation Center, University Housing, UO Athletics and Coca-Cola. Nationally, the "varsity sport of the mind" is sponsored by the College Bowl Corp., Inc., and the Association of Colleges and Universities-International.
