Obie, 58, is president and CEO of Obie Media Corp., one of the top outdoor and public-transit advertising companies in the country. He also heads a property company that owns the Fifth Street Public Market in Eugene and is former chairman of Eugene-based Centennial Bancorp.
As foundation president, Obie succeeds Randy Papé, also of Eugene, president and CEO of The Papé Group, Liberty Financial Group and Mt. Bachelor, Inc. Papé is serving as foundation board chairman this year.
A UO Foundation trustee since 1993, Obie has been a major contributor to the Professional Sales Program in the UOs Charles H. Lundquist College of Business. He also established a scholarship for UO fine arts students in honor of his father, Gordon, who founded Obie Outdoor Advertising in Eugene in 1960.
Obie was mayor of Eugene from 1985-88 after serving eight years on the Eugene City Council. He has three grown children from a previous marriage. He and his wife, Karen, live in Eugene.
The 47-member UO Foundation Board of Trustees oversees operation of the foundationa private, nonprofit corporation established by the Oregon Legislature in 1957 to support fund-raising activities of the University of Oregon and to receive and administer private gifts to the university. Board members also serve as advisers to the UO administration and as advocates for the university.

TreasurerDavid Sparks of Eugene, UO Class of 66, a certified public accountant and partner in the firm Kernutt, Stokes, Brandt & Co.
Five new members have been named to five-year terms on the foundation board. They are:
Bard E. Bunaes of Irvington, N.Y., who received his UO MBA degree in 1967, CEO and president of Sirius America Insurance Co.
Gerry B. Cameron of Vancouver, Wash., former CEO and chairman of US Bancorp.
Allen L. Gummer of Santa Rosa, Calif., UO Class of 59, CEO of MGM Brakes, a manufacturer of pneumatic brake systems for the heavy automotive industry.
Marty W. Smith of Eugene, CEO, president and chairman of Bi-Mart Corp.
Richard C. Williams of Eugene, UO Class of 61, chairman and former president and CEO of Centennial Bancorp.
