EUGENE--Thomas Beeby, an internationally recognized architect and former dean of the School of Architecture at Yale University, will be a special guest Aug. 6 during a morning-long critique of architectural designs created by UO students for a University of Oregon Museum of Art addition.

The UO Museum of Art is hosting the free public event from 8 a.m. to noon at the art museum, 1430 Johnson Lane on the UO campus.

At the event students enrolled in a summer architecture class will present their designs and models in response to an assignment to conceptualize a building addition for the UO Museum of Art. The event is an opportunity to consider the direct relationship between capital projects on campus, public and private support, and the museum's core educational mission, said David Robertson, director of the UO Museum of Art.

Beeby is noted for his distinctive additions to the University of Chicago's Oriental Institute and the Art Institute of Chicago. He was invited by Robertson and by Michael Fifield, professor and head of the Department of Architecture; and Jim Givens, professor of architecture, both at the UO School of Architecture and Allied Arts.

For more information about the Aug. 6 event, call the UO Museum of Art, (541) 346-3027.
