UO CONFERENCE TO FOCUS ON SCOTT, SCOTLAND, ROMANTICISM

EUGENEMore than 100 scholars from around the world will gather July 2125 at the University of Oregon to attend an international conference on Sir Walter Scott, the Scottish poet and novelist.
Participants in the "International Scott Conference," which will be held at the UOs Riley Hall, 650 E. 11th Ave., will examine the literary, cultural and historical contexts of Scotts work in late 18th- and early 19th-century Scotland.
The UO English department is the primary sponsor of the conference, which is open to the public. Co-sponsors are the Oregon Humanities Center, the Feminist Humanities Project of the Center for the Study of Women and Society, the Comparative Literature Program, the Office of the Vice Provost for Research, the College of Arts and Sciences, the Office of International Affairs, the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, the Knight Library and the National Galleries of Scotland.
The symposium will address Scottish, Irish and English writing of the Romantic era and related topics in the history of the novel and European Romanticism in a range of panels, lectures, seminars and discussion forums.
Members of the UO community may attend all events on the conference program. Plenary lectures and discussion forums will be held at various locations on campus and are free and open to the public.
Members of the public wishing to attend workshops or regular sessions, however, are required to register for the conference. There is no registration fee for UO students and faculty.
Registration is $80 for non-UO full-time faculty and $60 for non-UO students, independent scholars and retired faculty. The fee includes access to all events, receptions and a banquet. Due to the limited size of the workshops, those wishing to participate are advised to register soon.
