Sixteen local educators will leave for a learning adventure in Cambodia on Monday, July 19, thanks to a partnership between two Lane County school districts and the University of Oregon’s Center for Asian and Pacific Studies (CAPS). The group includes UO professors and administrators, public school principals and teachers and two UO students. The month-long study tour will help participants learn more about the Kingdom of Cambodia in order to do a better teaching job. "Too many Americans don’t understand the real situation in Cambodia, which is attempting to democratize and develop economically," says CAPS Director Gerald Fry. Participants hope to learn enough about Cambodia to develop curricula for use in schools around the country. A $55,000 Fulbright grant is funding the tour. The group will depart from the Eugene Airport at 10:40 a.m. Monday. SOURCE: Gerald Fry, director, UO Center for Asian and Pacific Studies, (541) 346-5088;
