UO SOPHOMORE IS NAMED MORRIS K. UDALL SCHOLAR

EUGENE–University of Oregon sophomore Leona R. Kassel will receive a $5,000 scholarship next year as a Morris K. Udall Scholar.

The Morris K. Udall Scholarship and Excellence in National Environmental Policy Foundation grants scholarships to those who demonstrate a commitment to fields related to the environment and to Native American and Alaska Native students who demonstrate a commitment in fields related to health care and tribal public policy.

Kassel, 25632 Jeans Rd., Veneta, is enrolled in the university’s Robert D. Clark Honors College and is pursuing a double major in environmental studies and philosophy. She is planning a career as an environmental advocate.

The Udall Foundation awarded 80 scholarships for the 2000-2001 academic year to sophomores and juniors from 34 states.
