UO STUDENTS RECEIVE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR WOMEN’S STUDIES

EUGENE–Two University of Oregon undergraduates will receive Abbie Jane Bakony scholarships for their work in women’s studies.

The scholarships from the UO Center for the Study of Women in Society were established to recognize students pursuing majors in women’s studies. They honor students who demonstrate excellent scholarship in the field and an overall commitment to women’s studies.

Abbie Jane Bakony of Seattle, Wash., is a 1943 UO graduate who donated the funds that support the scholarships.

Leahmani Tyler, a junior women’s studies and history major of 1050 Ferry St., Eugene, will receive $1,000. Tyler also is the recipient of a UO Laurel Award and received a College of Arts and Sciences scholarship this spring.

Deborah Kelley Neighbors, 844 Riverside Dr., Klamath Falls, will receive $1,000. She is a senior majoring in women’s studies and political science.
