EUGENE–In recognition of their leadership and commitment to the University of Oregon, the Society of Friars inducted 18 UO students and four faculty and administrative staff this spring. All were honored May 19 during the annual Family Weekend All-University Awards Luncheon.

One of the university’s oldest honorary groups, the Society of Friars was established in 1910 and prospered until the late 1960s, when student interest in such groups waned. Since experiencing a rebirth in 1980, current members have carried on the traditions of their founders.

New faculty and administrative staff members of Friars are Stephanie Bosnyk, Lundquist College of Business director of operations; Katherine Bryant, University Housing assistant director of residence life; Randall Choy, Office of Multicultural Affairs associate director; and Daniel Close, associate professor of counseling, family and human services and senior research associate in the College of Education.
