EUGENEThe Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation has pledged to donate $5,000 to the University of Oregons Westmoreland Child Care Center.
The funds will be used to add tricycle paths, a tree house and a slide to the playground at the center. The project also includes new landscaping and the installation of more all-weather play surfaces.
A Weyerhaeuser representative will deliver a check to university officials at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 13, at the Westmoreland Child Care Center, 2175 17th Court.
"This couldnt have come a better time," says Dennis Reynolds, Erb Memorial Union Child Care Center coordinator. "We have parent volunteers and representatives from the university landscape architecture program ready to help make those yards extra special places for kids."
"The donation is part of Weyerhaeusers commitment to fund programs serving young children," says Mike Moskovitz, Weyerhaeuser Co. regional communications manager.
The Westmoreland Child Care Center is operated by the EMU Child Care Center and primarily serves the children who reside in Westmoreland apartments, which are owned and operated by University Housing at the University of Oregon.
Planning has already begun, and work should be completed prior to the start of fall term.
