You can catch the whole show live on Oregon Public Broadcasting, and even buy a video to send to out-of-state relatives. Technicians scrambled last week to install the fiber optics system that will help send the University of Oregon’s Spring 2001 Commencement ceremony to a statewide television audience. But there’s more to be done. A crew from the UO’s Media Services office will string yards of cables and set up cameras at McArthur Court, 1601 University St., on Friday, June 15, to get ready for the big show. "We’ve spent close to six weeks of planning this broadcast," says producer Mike Majdic. "We still need to test the feed to OPB, but otherwise we’re ready." Master of ceremonies Alan Stavitsky, part-time stand-up comic and full-time UO broadcast journalism professor, has scheduled a mike check at 11 a.m. Friday. Stavitsky plans to inject some humor into the commentary. "I want to have some fun. I have a lot of good feelings about commencement, and I want to help the folks who are watching hearken back to their own graduations," he says.
