UO STUDENT ALUMNI ASSOCIATION NAMES NEW OFFICERS

EUGENE--A new slate of officers will lead the University of Oregon's Student Alumni Association (SAA) during the 1997-98 school year.

Patrick Tandingan, recently elected SAA president, is a senior general science major. He is a resident of 12235 S.E. 105th Dr., Portland.

Founded in 1978 as the Student University Relations Council, the Student Alumni Association works in conjunction with the University of Oregon Alumni Association to promote participation in the activities of the university, according to SAA adviser Nikole Koelbel, UO Alumni Association assistant director for chapter relations.

"We coordinate activities which bring together students, alumni, faculty, parents and the community to the benefit of all who are involved," Koelbel says.

Major events the association works on include Homecoming, spring and fall Parents' Weekends, Senior Send-Off and the Mentor Program, which matches students with alumni mentors to assist in career planning and goal setting. SAA members and officers also help with community service events such as campus blood drives and University Day.

Besides Tandingan, the other new executive committee members are:

* Vice president Simon Austin, a junior business administration pre-major, 1230 N.E. Watson, Bend.

* Treasurer Becky Grossman, a junior economics major, 10380 S.W. 152nd Terrace, Beaverton.

* Secretary Jennifer Gericke, a sophomore biology major, 5005 Deerpark Circle, Fair Oaks, Calif.

Committee chairs are:

* Homecoming--Julie Smith, a junior public relations pre-major, 2300 N.W. Squire St., Albany.

* Parents' Weekend--Shayna Stude, a sophomore biology major, 15269 S.E. Louise Lane, Clackamas.

* Community Relations Chair--Dani Ing, a sophomore advertising pre-major, 2345 Warren St., Eugene.

* Mentor Program Chair--Peter Topazio, a junior journalism pre-major, 1125 E. 18th Ave., Eugene.

* Student Ambassador Program--Kris Winter, a senior educational studies major, 3474 Centennial Blvd., Apt. 38, Eugene.

* Historian--Wendy Kreuder, a junior English and Spanish major, 1645 S.E. Wendy Ave., Gresham.

* University Relations--Christina Short, a senior communication studies pre-major, 6493 Mojave Dr., San Jose, Calif.

* Public Relations--Cara Strazzo, a junior fine and applied arts major, 8100 Elphick Rd., Sebastopol, Calif.

* Senior Send-Off Chair--Jason Khoury, a senior public relations major, 8628 Kernwood Court, Stockton, Calif.

* Blood Drive--Aneelah Afzali, a junior psychology major, 6712 Tieton Dr., Yakima, Wash.
