EUGENE--The Mad Duck Repertory Theatre begins its third season with the opening of a new children's play, "Fairy Tale Express," at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 11, in the Carnival Theatre space just outside Villard Hall, 1109 Old Campus Lane on the University of Oregon campus. Subsequent performances will be held on July 12, 18-19 and 25-26, and August 1-2 and 8-9. All performances begin at 11 a.m. "Fairy Tale Express" is an original production developed by director Shelley Douma, a theater arts doctoral degree student, 2869 Lakeshore Dr., Twin Lakes, Mich. Douma and her cast take classic fairy tales and improvise their own adaptations, infusing the play with a contemporary energy and flavor sure to delight children and adults alike. Company members performing in Fairy Tale Express include UO students Jeff Foley, a senior advertising student, 17370 N.W. Madras Court, Beaverton; Allegro Johnson, a Community Education Program graduate student, 1475 Bailey Hill Rd., Apt. 134, Eugene; Wendy Ross, a freshman English major, 3018 Brett Loop, Eugene; and Kirsten Winchell, a senior theater arts major, 6500 S.W. 90th, Portland. Rebecca Utz, a theater arts master's degree student, 2933 Willamette St., Apt. 2, Eugene, is the set designer. Karen Dinsmore, a senior English major, 2162 Westfarthing Way N.W., Salem, is the costume designer. Jim Utz, a theater arts doctoral degree student, 1801 Tea Place, Davis, Calif., is the technical director. Tickets for "Fairy Tale Express" are $5 for adults, $3 for children and $2 for adults accompanied by children. They will be sold by the ticket office at the Erb Memorial Union, 1222 E. 13th Ave. EMU ticket office hours are 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday. On performance days, tickets for "Fairy Tale Express" also will be available at 10:30 a.m. at the Carnival Theatre Space just outside Villard Hall.
