UO ACCOUNTING STUDENTS RECEIVE SCHOLARSHIPS, AWARDS

EUGENE–Eighteen University of Oregon accounting students received academic awards and more than $28,600 in scholarships for the 1999—2000 school year at the annual Accounting Recognition Evening.

The award and scholarship recipients are all senior accounting majors in the UO Charles H. Lundquist College of Business unless otherwise indicated. The honored students include:

• Joylyn Ankeney, 4150 S.W. Hocken Ave., Apt. 9, Beaverton, who received the 1999 Department of Accounting Award for Excellence. The award honors graduating seniors whose work has exemplified academic excellence.

• Tammy Kocian, 358 La Casa St., Eugene, who received the $3,560 Yergen and Meyer Scholarship. The award honors William F. Meyer, the founder of the Yergen and Meyer accounting firm.

• Deborah Brown Parmelee, a postbaccalaureate pre-business administration student, 174 Mecca Ave., Eugene, who received a $500 Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants Endowment Scholarship.

• Ryan Wilson, a senior economics major, 3198 Powder River Dr., Eugene, who received the Conviser Duffy CPA Review Scholarship, valued at $1,500.

• Samantha E. Young, 405 E. 14th Ave., Apt. 5, Eugene, who won the Anna L. May Endowment Scholarship from the Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants Educational Foundation. This $3,000 scholarship is presented to an outstanding accounting student from Southern Oregon.

• Eli Bentley, 388 S.W. K St., Grants Pass, who received the Gregor Endowment Scholarship. The annual $500 award, sponsored by Gregor Professional Corp. of Eugene, goes to a regularly enrolled senior in accounting who intends to become a certified public accountant.

• Erica Walther, 2479 Palisades Crest Dr., Lake Oswego, who received the $3,560 Diana West McKalip Memorial Scholarship for Women.

• Philip Smith, a junior accounting major, 720 S. Modoc Ave., Medford, who received the $2,000 Chevron Scholarship.

• Jungsun Lee, 4385 S.E. Meadowcrest Court, Milwaukie, and Sang-Hyeon An, 1494 Scotch Ave. S.E., Salem, each of whom received $1,500 C. Lyle Kelly Memorial Scholarships.

• Tracy Fisher, a junior accounting major, 1347 Ewald, Salem, who received the $2,000 Lundquist Accounting Scholarship. Charles H. Lundquist, chairman of the board of Continental Development Corp., sponsors this award.

• Laurie Robeson, 1452 W. Fairview Dr., Springfield, who won the $2,500 Moss Adams Scholarship given by Moss Adams.

• Paul Tiger, a winter 1999 graduate in accounting, P.O. Box 24, Sublimity, who received the Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants (OSCPA) Outstanding Student Award. The OSCPA award recognizes outstanding scholarship and service.

• Daeho Kim, 10447 S.W. Moratoc Dr., Tualatin, who won the Becker CPA Review Scholarship, which will provide him with full tuition for the Becker CPA Review, valued at $1,500. Becker has provided full-tuition scholarships for UO accounting students for more than 12 years. Kim also was named Outstanding Member of the Year by Beta Alpha Psi, a national scholastic and professional accounting honor society.

• Heather Heinze, a junior accounting major, 22590 Ponderay Dr., West Linn, who won the PricewaterhouseCoopers Leadership Award. The accounting firm annually sponsors the $1,000 prize to recognize a student who, in addition to academic achievement, demonstrates leadership in student affairs in a way that helps others.

• Yi Chen from Shanghai, China, who received a $500 Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants Endowment Scholarship.

• Diana Jaffar, a junior accounting major from Jakarta, Indonesia, who received a $1,500 Tektronix Scholarship. Jaffar also won a $500 award from the American Society of Women Accountants.

• Ernawati, a junior accounting major from Surabaya, Indonesia, who received a $1,500 Tektronix Scholarship.
