Family, friends, visitors and participants need to avoid the Ferry Street bridge traffic jams on their routes to the University of Oregon Commencement ceremonies, but will be able to park free all day on Saturday, June 12, when they arrive. Free parking is offered all day in all university parking lots and at metered city street parking in the immediate area.
Due to construction on the Ferry Street Bridge, an alternate route for southbound motorists is recommended. Those driving south on I-5 need to take the Eugene/University of Oregon exit
(No. 194B) onto the I-105 westbound highway. On I-105, follow the orange and black ODOT (Oregon Department of Transportation) signs and drive over the Washington/Jefferson Bridge to Jefferson Street. Continue south on Jefferson Street and turn left on West 13th Avenue. From West 13th, turn right on Willamette Street for five blocks and make a left onto East 18th Avenue. The free parking zone begins at Alder and East 18th. Continue east until you see Hayward Field on the left, then turn left onto Agate Street. The free parking zone extends north and east from Hayward Field.
University parking regulations will not be enforcedexcept in safety zones, disability parking and reserved parking spaces. All meters in campus parking lots and on campus streets will be free. Additional disability parking spaces will be available on East 15th Avenue in front of Hayward Field, 1580 E. 15th Ave.
In order to provide free on-street parking on Commencement Day, the university also has rented all City of Eugene parking meters in the following areas:
