EUGENE–Internationally renowned anthropologist Laurel Kendall will discuss "Gods, Shamans and the I.M.F.: Contemporary Encounters with the Korean Spirit World" at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, in Room 177 of Lawrence Hall, 1190 Franklin Blvd., at the University of Oregon.

Her lecture is free and open to the public. It will be followed by a reception at the UO Museum of Art, 1430 Johnson Lane on campus.

Kendall’s lecture is offered in conjunction with the Korean paintings exhibition, "The Realm of Revelation: Vision and Imagination in Later Korean Art," on display at the art museum through April 9. Funds for the exhibition and program were provided by a Lane County Tourism Special Projects Grant.

Kendall is curator in charge of Asian Ethnographic Collections at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. She is the author of the modern anthropological classic "Shamans, Housewives and Other Restless Spirits," a study of the role of women in Korean ritual life based on her several years of fieldwork.

Kendall received her Ph.D. in anthropology from Columbia University in 1979. Her professional experience is highlighted with numerous publications, awards, and national and international conference presentations.
