For assistance and information, call Kaci Manning at the UO Museum of Art, (541) 346-0942.EUGENEPrints donated by more than 75 nationally recognized photographers will go on the auction block Sunday, April 9, at the 24th annual Photography at Oregon Auction to support photography exhibitions and programs at the University of Oregon Museum of Art.
The Photography at Oregon (PAO) Committees annual auction opens at noon and bidding begins at 1 p.m. in the Alumni Lounge of Gerlinger Hall, 1468 University St. The prints by some of the nations top photographers are on display through April 8 at the art museum, 1430 Johnson Lane.
Among photographers whose work are part of the exhibition and auction are Brian Lanker of Eugene; Dennis Purdy of Portland; Christopher Burkett of Vernonia; Ruth Bernhard and Michael Kenna, both of San Francisco, Calif.; Olivia Parker of Manchester, Mass.; George Tice of Iselin, N.J.; and Dan Powell and Terri Warpinski, both UO art faculty members.
Lawrence Fong, Museum of Art associate director, says the Photography at Oregon Auction offers collectors a great opportunity to learn more about the history of the medium, as well as a rare chance to acquire first-rate art at a very reasonable price.
The University of Oregon Museum of Art is a nonprofit state institution supported by the generosity of its members and by grants from the Oregon Arts commission and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. Horton, Museum of Art, Culp, Krause and Autzen endowments provide operating funds, and a Lane County Tourism Special Projects Grant provided additional funding for the photography exhibition.
Accessible to people with disabilities, the Museum of Art is open from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. Suggested admission is $3, except on Wednesday evenings when the MusEvenings! program offers free extended viewing hours from 5 to 8 p.m. Museum members, students, UO employees and children are admitted free.
