University of Oregon employees were hungry for success during the Governor’s Food Drive 2000 and have the bulk to show for it. This year, UO employees gave the equivalent of more than 70,000 pounds of food during the food drive, a 283% increase over the previous year. The food drive officially kicked off on February 14 and wrapped up on March 1. Eugene campus donations will go to Food for Lane County. Portland Center donations went to a local mission in the downtown area. UO president Dave Frohnmayer and the UO Duck will present special awards to the leading departments and food drive coordinators, during an informal reception at 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, in the Lobby of Johnson Hall, 1098 E.13th Ave. Deb McGeorge of Food for Lane County will also be there to personally thank all of this year’s participants for the most successful drive in UO history. "It’s extremely heartening that members of the university community responded with such generosity," says Karen Scheeland, food drive coordinator and office manager, UO Office of Governmental Affairs. "By making this the most successful food drive in the history of the University of Oregon, our employees demonstrated what caring people are capable of achieving in a short period of time when they put their hearts and minds to it."
