EUGENE, Ore.--The University of Oregon's Charles H. Lundquist College of Business will honor software giants Paul Allen, Paul Brainerd and businessman Charles H. Lundquist during the college's Visionaries Awards Luncheon on March 19 in Portland, Ore. "The Visionaries Awards are given to those individuals who, by challenging our concepts of business practices and social responsibility, have changed the way we teach and conduct business in this country and around the world," said Dale Morse, interim dean of UO's Lundquist College of Business. Allen, who co-founded Microsoft Corp. with Bill Gates in 1975, will receive the Visionaries Trendsetter of The Year Award. Presently, Allen owns and invests in companies exploring the potential of multimedia digital communications and is a partner in the entertainment studio DreamWorks SKG. He is also the owner of the Portland Trail Blazers of the National Basketball Association and the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League. He gives back to the community through the five Allen Charitable Foundations and is the founder of the Experience Music Project in Seattle. Brainerd, a Seattle resident, will receive the Visionaries Alumni Trailblazer Award. A 1970 graduate of the UO's College of Business, Brainerd founded Aldus Corp. which developed a new generation of page composition software that allows business and creative professionals to perform page layout and design functions on the microcomputer. Presently, he is the president of The Brainerd Foundation and is also a founding partner in Social Venture Partners, an effort to encourage high-technology professionals to give time, money and expertise to their communities. Lundquist, chairman of the board of directors of Continental Development Corp. in Los Angeles, will receive the Visionaries Lifetime Achievement Award. He is a 1942 graduate of the UO's College of Business. Since the late 1940s, Lundquist and a small investment group have acquired or founded several companies in a variety of industries including aerospace subcontracting, manufacturing and commercial real estate development. Lundquist has supported the UO's College of Business by endowing two scholarship funds as well as the college's center for entrepreneurship. In 1993, he donated $10 million to the college. Because of his commitment and support, the UO's College of Business was renamed in his honor. The University of Oregon's Lundquist College of Business Visionaries Awards will be held in the Crystal Ballroom of the Benson Hotel in Portland, Ore., on March 19.
