EUGENE--The University of Oregon's Charles H. Lundquist College of Business presented its first annual Visionaries Awards to Paul Allen, Paul Brainerd and Charles H. Lundquist during a ceremony today (March 19) at the Benson Hotel in Portland, Ore. "The Visionaries Awards are given to individuals who challenge our concepts of business practices and social responsibility," said Dale Morse, interim dean of the Lundquist College of Business. "Their very existence encourages us to confront the present while envisioning the future." The Visionaries Trendsetter of the Year Award was presented to Allen, co-founder of Microsoft. Allen presently owns and invests in a suite of companies exploring the potential of multimedia digital communications. Allen's senior adviser, Bert Kolde, accepted the award on his behalf. The Visionaries Alumni Trailblazer Award was presented to Brainerd. A Seattle resident and 1970 graduate of the UO's College of Business Administration, Brainerd is the founder of Aldus Corp. He is presently the president of the Brainerd Foundation in Seattle. The Visionaries Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Lundquist. He is a 1942 graduate of the UO's College of Business Administration and chairman of Continental Development Corp. in Los Angeles. Because of his commitment and support, the UO's business college was renamed in his honor in 1993. -30- #P-6079/Local,OrDailies/Bus,OrBus
