NATIONAL TELECONFERENCE TO ADDRESS ALCOHOL ABUSE
|
March 26, 1998
What can be done about the problem of alcohol abuse on college campuses? Counselors and staff from the University of Oregon and universities across the nation will link up electronically to explore this issue in a national teleconference which takes place from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Monday, March 30, in Studio B of the Instructional Media Center, Knight Library, 1501 Kincaid St. Sponsored by the University of Vermont, the teleconference will feature expert panelists who will provide insight into high-risk drinking behavior; identify the characteristics of useful and effective substance abuse programs; and explain how to develop practices and policies that successfully modify student drinking behavior. "Alcohol has been identified as the number one problem facing American colleges," says Linda Hoover, assistant dean, UO Office of Student Life. "We are continuing to review our alcohol policies and culture at the UO and expect that this teleconference will give us useful information about how other universities are addressing this most serious problem." The teleconference will include several question-and-answer periods for audience-panelist participation.
