EUGENE–University of Oregon art history expert Cynthia Bogel will discuss contemporary Japanese art and culture in a gallery talk titled "Teraoka and Tradition?: Japanese Art Past and Present" at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31, during the free MusEvenings! weekly program at the UO Museum of Art, 1430 Johnson Lane.

Bogel’s lecture compliments the exhibition, "Web of Confession: Paintings by Masami Teraoka," at the UO art museum March 28 through May 9. Bogel, an assistant professor of art history, says the exhibition showcases a collection of 21 paintings by Teraoka, a preeminent Japanese artist. His paintings offer contemporary approaches to religion, confession, sexuality, gender and technology while providing fascinating commentary on the contemporary world as the 21st century approaches.

The Museum of Art, accessible to people with disabilities, is open from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. Suggested admission is $3, except on Wednesdays when the MusEvenings! program offers free extended viewing hours from 5—8 p.m. Museum members, students, UO employees and children are admitted free.
