EUGENEBusinesses who set up shop on the Internet can get some help deciphering the opportunities and uncertainties they face at a special symposium offered by the University of Oregon School of Law and a Portland-based law firm.
The program, "eSymposium: Emerging Internet Markets," is offered by the UO law schools Law and Entrepreneurship Center and the law firm Ater Wynne LLP. It takes place from 27:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, at Atwaters Restaurant, U.S. Bancorp Tower, 111 S.W. Fifth Ave., Portland.
The symposium will offer panel discussions exploring a variety of legal issues involving electronic commerce. Legal experts and industry representatives will address issues including consumer laws and privacy protection of consumer data, changes in the telecommunications industry and their effect on growth of the Internet, and the impact of digital technology on rights and protections for entertainment and media.

2:45 p.m. Panel discussion, "Telecommunications and Internet Access." Panelists include Gary R. 4 p.m. Panel discussion, "Impact of a Digital World on Entertainment and Media Industries." Panelists include Kenneth Kaufman, Esq., Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, Washington, D.C.; Kenneth Kwartler, Esq., Ater Wynne LLP, Portland; and Jack Lawrence, executive vice president, Chambers Communications Corp., Eugene.
5:20 p.m. Panel discussion, "The Unpredictable Nature of E-Commerce." Panelists include William Campbell, Esq., Ater Wynne LLP, Portland; Mike Eisenberg, general manager of e-commerce, RealNetworks [NASDAQ: RNWK], Seattle, Wash.; and Daniel Waggoner, Esq., Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, Seattle, Wash.
7 p.m. Closing Remarks (speaker to be announced).
Symposium fees are $145 per person and include all materials, five Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits and dinner. Deadline for registering is March 26.
