EUGENE–The Office of Orientation has selected 19 University of Oregon students to take part and assist in 1999 Student Orientation Programs.

"The members of the 1999 Student Orientation Staff are an integral part of the University of Oregon’s new student orientation programs," says Kris Winter, director of student orientation programs.

Members of the staff will serve as the university’s official hosts for new students and their parents during IntroDUCKtion–five two-day programs scheduled for July 8—9, 11—12, 15—16, 18—19 and 22—23, and a one-day program on July 14 for transfer students. They also will assist new and transferring students during the Week of Welcome in September, just before fall term begins.

Staff duties include welcoming new students and their families to the university, planning events, aiding in academic advising, giving campus tours and acting as liaisons between the orientation office and the university community.

These students were chosen on a competitive basis from approximately 35 applications. They went through an extensive interview process which involved a paper application and both group and individual interviews.

"Having a student staff with such responsibility is unique, and yet it is the staff that makes it possible for our orientation programs to run so smoothly," Winter, said.

Student directors are chosen from among students who have served successfully as a member of the Student Orientation Staff in previous years. They assist the director of orientation and are a primary resource for the Student Orientation Staff.

Student directors, who will assist Winter, are Amy Juvé, a junior psychology major, 17759 S.W. Meadowbrook Way, Aloha; Shannon Berry, a senior sociology major, 1450 Bond Lane, Eugene; and Heather Dumas, a senior educational studies major, 1301 Woodstone Dr., Modesto, Calif.
