Frye, a 1966 graduate of the University of Oregon School of Law, will receive the law schools 2000 Meritorious Service Award.
The Meritorious Service Award is given by the UO law faculty in recognition of outstanding service to the administration of justice and legal education in Oregon. It will be presented at the law schools commencement ceremony at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, in the Silva Concert Hall at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts, One Eugene Centre.
Frye, 69, was nominated for the U.S. district judgeship by President Jimmy Carter in 1979.
She had served as a Lane County circuit court judge from 1971 until her appointment to the federal bench. Prior to that, she practiced law in two private Eugene firms and taught law part-time at the UO School of Law. Before she began her legal career, Frye taught English and Spanish in public schools for five years.
A native of Klamath Falls, Frye was educated in public schools in Klamath Falls. She received her bachelor of arts degree with honors in English from the University of Oregon in 1953. She received a master of arts degree from the UO in 1961, before going on to earn her doctor of jurisprudence degree from the UO.
A widow, Frye has four children and five grandchildren.
