EUGENE–In recognition of their leadership and commitment to the University of Oregon, the Society of Friars inducted 17 UO students and three faculty members this spring. All were honored May 20 during the annual Family Weekend All-University Awards Luncheon.

One of the university’s oldest honorary groups, the Society of Friars was established in 1910 and prospered until the late 1960s, when student interest in such groups waned. Since experiencing a rebirth in 1980, current members have carried on the traditions of their founders.

New faculty members of Friars are William Daley, a decision sciences instructor and director of the Business and Industrial Sales Program; Carla Gary, director and university advocate for the Office of Multicultural Affairs; and Mia Tuan, an assistant professor of sociology.

Students inducted by the Friars this year are:
