EUGENEWorld premieres of original works for Indonesian gamelan headline the four concerts scheduled this week at the University of Oregon School of Music, 961 E. 18th Ave. Repertoire ranging from symphonic and campus band to wind ensemble and flute will be featured.

Flute students of Associate Professor Richard Trombley will give a class recital at 8 p.m. in Beall Concert Hall, 961 E. 18th Ave. Admission is free.
Wednesday, May 17The Oregon Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band
The Oregon Wind Ensemble and UO Symphonic Band will share a concert at 8 p.m. in Beall Hall. Tickets, available at the door, are $5 general admission and $3 for students and senior citizens.
The Oregon Wind Ensemble, directed by Timothy Reynolds, will play "Serenade in E-flat Major," a sextet for woodwinds by Mozart; "Trauersinfonie" by Richard Wagner; "Awayday" by Adam Gorb; "Fantasia in G" by J. S. Bach; and "Pastime" by Jack Stampan ingenious homage to baseball in which the composer pays tribute to such legends as Don Larsen, Felipe Alou, Willie Mays, Barry Bonds, Juan Marichal, Orlando Cepeda, Willie McCovey, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa and Babe Ruth.
The Symphonic Band, directed by Todd Zimbelman, will play "Escape from Platos Cave" by Stephen Melillo, "Trittico" by Vaclav Nelhybel, "Come Sweet Death" by J.S. Bach and "Sea Songs" by Ralph Vaughan Williams.
Thursday, May 18Pacific Rim Gamelan
The Pacific Rim Gamelan, directed by Associate Professor Robert Kyr, will give a concert of world premieres for gamelan at 7 p.m. in Beall Concert Hall. Tickets, available at the door, are $5 general admission and $3 for students and senior citizens.
The Pacific Rim Gamelan is an Indonesian percussion orchestra consisting of nearly 20 members who perform on the beautifully crafted instruments of a Balinese gamelan. The metal xylophones, gongs and drums produce a rhythmic and colorful music of bell-like textures and deep gong resonances. The members of the ensemble are UO student composers who write for the gamelan.
Among the premieres to be performed are "Urgently Preposterous" by Asher Fulero, "Silvertone" by Scott Unrein, "Midori" by John Villec, "When Still Ceases to be Still" by McKenzie Stubbert, "Concerto for Tenors and Gamelan" by Mendel Lee, "Tide" by Randy Nelson and excerpts from "Sayan" by Kurt Doles.
Thursday, May 18Campus Orchestra
The UO Campus Orchestra, under the direction of Graduate Teaching Fellow Ann Stafford, will give its spring concert at 8 p.m. in Room 198 of the Music Building, 961 E. 18th Ave. Admission is free.
The Campus Orchestra will be joined by the string players of the University Chamber Orchestra to perform Elgars "Serenade for Strings." The University Chamber Orchestra also will perform Mozarts "Adagio and Fugue" and Stravinskys "Suite No. 2 for Chamber Orchestra." The Stravinsky piece is a mixed ensemble including brass, woodwinds, piano, percussion and strings. The concert is Staffords masters degree recital in orchestral conducting.
