UO STUDENTS LEARN FROM LEGISLATIVE MENTORS

EUGENE–Sixteen University of Oregon students are learning a lesson in civics in Salem this spring, up close and in person.

The students are interning for state legislators, government staff members and lobbyists during the 2001 session of the Oregon Legislature. They are earning credit, creating contacts and gaining practical experience by shadowing the government officials.

Listed by their hometowns, the 2001 UO legislative interns and their assignments are:

BEND–Mario Riquelme, a second-year law student of P.O. Box 9537, working with Rep. Tim Knopp of Bend.

EUGENE–Brent Canode, a master’s degree student in public affairs of 330 High St., working with Rep. Randy Leonard of Portland; Howard Grooters, a second-year law student of 650 W. 12th Ave., Apt. 222, working with Rep. Charlie Ringo of Beaverton; Derek Scheer, a third-year law student of 1150 Darlene Lane, Apt. 203, working with Rep. Laurie Monnes Anderson of Gresham; Christina Smith, a third-year law student of 1080 Patterson St., Apt. 1002, working with Sen. Gene Derfler of Salem; and Michael Thomas, a second-year law student of 2694 Potter St., working with the Judiciary Committee.

GRESHAM–Steven Purkeypile, a second-year law student of 512 N.E. Le Mesa Court, working with Rep. Tim Knopp of Bend.

HERMISTON–Ryan Hagemann, a third-year law student of 355 W. McKenzie Ave., working with the Office of the Oregon Attorney General.

MILWAUKIE–Robert Raschio, a third-year law student of 7740 S.E. Cypress Ave., working with Rep. Kathy Lowe of Oregon City; and Glenda Sloan, a second-year law student of 11134 S.E. 64th Ave., working with Rep. Deborah Kafoury of Portland.

PORTLAND–Ellen Taussig-Conaty, a third-year law student of 3735 N.E. 81st Ave., working with Rep. Phil Barnhart of Eugene; and Tieesha Taylor, a third-year law student of 9432 N. Woolsey Court, working with the Office of the Governor’s Legal Counsel.

SHERWOOD–Courtney Brown, a third-year law student of 31900 N.E. Canter Lane, working with the Office of the Governor’s Legal Counsel.

SPRINGFIELD–Marcia Lively, a senior political science major of 1186 W. D St., working with Sen. Lee Beyer of Springfield.

 

TANGENT–Racheal Egan, a third-year law student of 31909 N. Lake Creek Dr., working with Sen. Kate Brown of Portland.

OAKLAND, Calif.–Devorah Signer, a third-year law student of 351 Florence Ave., working with the Office of the Governor’s Legal Counsel.
