BACKGROUND

Frohnmayer's talk wraps up this year's SEHS leadership class in which students heard from leaders including First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton and Oregon Sen. Ron Wyden.

Frohnmayer advises leaders to know your followers or organization, know yourself, realize that leaders don't simply lead but also employ team management, and learn how to motivate.

"There is no set formula for making great leaders," says Frohnmayer. "But there are leadership behaviors that can be learned and attitudes that can be internalized."

A native Oregonian, Frohnmayer is the 15th president of the University of Oregon, the state's 121-year-old center for liberal arts, science and professional studies. He assumed the presidency on July 1, 1994.
