UO PROFESSOR NAMED ACADEMY OF MANAGEMENT FELLOW

May 14, 1997 Contact Pauline Austin (541) 346-3129 EUGENE--The Academy of Management, a 24,000-member national professional association of academics and management practitioners, has elected University of Oregon professor Alan Meyer as a fellow. Meyer is the Edwin and June Woldt Cone Professor and head of the Department of Management at the UO Charles H. Lundquist College of Business. Meyer is an organizational theorist whose research is grounded in sociology. He studies how people's patterns of behavior harden into organizational structure. The U. S. Army Research Institute and the National Center for Health Services Research have supported Meyer's research on how technological innovations infiltrate organizations. Meyer is currently studying the impacts of quantum changes in the structure and boundaries of the health care, electric utility, and savings and loan industries. He is a former consulting editor for the "Academy of Management Journal" and now serves as senior editor of organization theory and design for the professional journal, "Organization Science."
