EUGENE--The University of Oregon Mothers' Club presented $8,500 in scholarships and awards to eight exceptional UO undergraduate students during the annual Parents' Weekend All-University Awards Luncheon on Saturday, May 17.

The honors, for use during the 1997-98 school year, include the $1,500 Golda Parker Wickham Award, the $1,250 Opal and Robert D. Clark Scholarship, the $750 Theresa Kelly Janes Scholarship, and five $1,000 UO Mothers' Club Scholarships.

The UO Mothers' Club Scholarship program, established in 1934, provide funds to UO students recognized for their strong leadership qualities, high academic achievement, community involvement and financial need.

Julie Meyer, a sophomore Spanish and violin performance major and daughter of Walt and Nancy Meyer, 3987 Brae Burn, Eugene, received the Janes award. It honors a deceased UO alumna who taught piano and strongly supported the UO Mothers' Club and the university.

Sydnor Peterson, a senior history major and daughter of R.D. and Chilton Peterson, 195 W. 35th Place, Eugene, received the Clark Scholarship. The award was established to recognize volunteer service, scholarship and need. It honors the UO president emeritus and his late wife Opal for their outstanding service and volunteer support.

Cecelia Tatsumi, a junior general science major and daughter of Harry and Noriko Tatsumi, 9695 S.W. Melnore St., Portland, received the Wickham award. Named for the UO dean of women from 1945-1969, the award recognizes outstanding involvement in civic activities as well as high academic achievement.

The Mothers' Club presented $1,000 scholarships to the following students:

* Erik Haunold, a senior history major and son of Alfred and Mary Haunold, 1325 N.W. Forest Dr., Corvallis.

* Mary Gevatosky, a junior education major of 1780 W. 15th Ave., Eugene.

* Andrea Wulf, a junior general science major and daughter of Rose Kirtley, 21439 S. Lee Dr., Oregon City, and Frank Wulf, 30352 W. Highway 215, Molalla.

* Suzanna Ward, a sophomore Romance languages major and daughter of Melissa Ward, P.O. Box 1998, Sisters.

* Carrie Peterson, a senior psychology major and daughter of Jeri Peterson, 3504 Michael Dr., San Mateo, Calif., and Joel Peterson, 2756 Surrey Lane, Idaho Falls, Idaho.
