Crosiar (541) 346-3135 EUGENE--In recognition of their leadership and commitment to the University of Oregon, the Society of Friars inducted 19 UO students and four faculty members this spring. One of the university's oldest honorary groups, the Society of Friars was established in 1910 and prospered until the late 1960s, when student interest in such groups waned. The Friars experienced a rebirth in 1980, and the current members are now carrying on the traditions of their founders. The four faculty members selected for membership this year are Jackie Balzer, director of the Office of Student Orientation; Debby Martin, program assistant for the Student Activities Resource Office; Edmond Vignoul, director of the Office of Student Financial Aid; and Ron Wixman, a professor of geography.
