May 8, 1997 Contact Ross West (541) 346-2060 Source Don Tucker (541) 346-4963 or 687-7962 EUGENE--The Learning Channel's hour-long program, "Understanding Laughter," at 10 p.m. (EST) on Saturday, May 10, will feature University of Oregon psychology professor Don Tucker gathering brain wave information on a pair of unusual subjects, the "giggle twins." Jane Curtain will narrate the program that explores current scientific knowledge of humor and laughter. The giggle twins are identical twins who not only look alike, but who also have remarkably similar and unusually positive dispositions, a pronounced tendency to laugh and giggle. Curiously, they were raised apart, with no knowledge of each other. This suggests to scientists a strong genetic component to their personalities and, perhaps, personalities in general. The program's producer flew the twins to Eugene last summer to visit Tucker's Electrical Geodesics, Inc., firm in the Riverfront Research Park. There, he collected their brain waves using his dense array Geodesic Sensor Net system. -30- #P-7248/Special
