May 28, 1997 Contact Ross West (541) 346-2060 EUGENE--Harvard astronomer Margaret Geller will deliver a public lecture, "Mapping the Universe: So Many Galaxies...So Little Time," at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 6, at the Lane ESD Planetarium in the WISTEC Building, 2300 Leo Harris Parkway, just west of Autzen Stadium. Geller is an internationally known cosmologist and a Distinguished Professor at Harvard University. She is the pioneer behind our understanding of large-scale structure in the universe: how galaxies are distributed and the huge voids between the chains of galaxy clusters. A number of PBS productions about the general subject of observational cosmology have involved or featured Geller, including the recent PBS series, "Mysteries of Deep Space." Geller's lecture is being co-sponsored by the University of Oregon, the Friends of Pine Mountain Observatory and the Lane ESD Planetarium. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for students or children.
